One more sleep….

April has been so busy we don’t know how we ever had time to work! Having AJ stay with us to recover from her appendectomy changed some of our plans. We enjoyed a few nights in Melmore earlier in the month but haven’t had time to venture back since!

This past weekend we have been catching up with friends and family before we set off on our “road trip”. We have enjoyed great company at Masala Hut (twice), The Stillhouse gastro pub, Wine and Brine, and a chippy carryout…. all in all we have had a wonderful time!

Monday we took ourselves to the Somme Heritage Centre in Newtownards. To hear stories of the Ulster divisions part in WW1 and in particular the sacrifices made by the 36th Division at the Battle of the Somme was very moving. We are planning a visit to the Somme towards the end of May so the tour helped put in to context the part played by the soldiers from Ireland and gave us some useful information ahead of our visit.

For more information on the centre you can visit their website at.. http://www.sommeassociation.com

Tuesday we enjoyed the tasting menu at The Muddlers Club Belfast with our dear friend Michael. Having overcome the confusion of which train we were meeting on, we headed in to Belfast to enjoy a wonderful culinary afternoon.

We stopped in the Bullitt Hotel for a wee G&T on the way past… quite a comfortable spot to pass an hour or two if you can get the sofa!

Onwards to Muddlers where we left Chef Anton to chose our menu….

The food and wine pairings were amazing, staff engaging and informative. Very enjoyable afternoon.

Today it’s the all important visits to the hairdressers etc and final packing!

What started off as a plan to visit Bilbao for a rugby match has developed in to a road trip across northern Spain and up through France. The challenge though is we are taking our SLK and hope to get the roof down which leaves a limited amount of space for luggage… should be interesting!
